Faster Horses

“ If you ask a person what they’d wanted, they’d say faster horses” , a quote by Henry Ford that is my personal favourite for the longest time. But i’ve always gathered during my stint as a designer, that user research and interviews usually end in shit, and its better to just do your own thing. Its only until this week, that i’ve realised that i’ve missed out a teeny-tiny detail — ‘they’d say they want to go FASTER’.

This week was all about asking questions and finding out the true pains of a person.

Growing up, “why” was always such a passive-aggressive word.

I remember when i was younger ( an extremely misbehaved child i was at that too ), my Dad used to discipline me in two ways. The easy way out was always the cane. But what really kills you, is him asking why. Why, why, why, why, why. And its ALWAYS so mentally draining.

So to me, ‘why’ is a word designed to break you. But why is a double edged sword. In my personal opinion, it challenges people to find the intrinsic nature of the pains that they are facing, digging below the surface, but also designed to break them down so that they speak by instinct and not by carefully thought out logic. In-which we would be able to pick out the intrinsic needs and wants of a person.

Apart from APPCOM, which was a lecture by Dr. Alex, It got me interested in the human psyche. I came accross a theory called “6- seconds”.

When a person is emotionally triggered, a person will be inclined to act instinctively and impulsively within 6-seconds. Knowing this, if one takes the time to breathe and calm themselves down, a logical reply would be formed.

So that being said, “ why do i have to write this damn post every week”, “why is it beneficial to me”, “ why do i even join this programme”.
